Medical Billing Companies

You never realize how much difference having the right medical billing company makes until you’ve dealt with the wrong one. I found what looked to be a good medical transcription and billing company a few years ago. You see, I run a small private practice, and up until that point I had been able to do all my billing myself. Once business started to pick up, however, I started to fall behind in it. Even with my wife’s assistance, I could not keep up with all of the paperwork associated with being a physician. I realized that it was high time to start looking at medical billing companies.

There were only a few medical billing companies in the small New England town where I lived. I did not want to send my paperwork across the country because I thought it would unnecessarily complicate matters, so I chose one of these. They seemed to be quite efficient at first. They got out all of the paperwork on time, and I seemed to be being paid for all of my work. Then the trouble started.

If you are not familiar with the workings of the medical profession, you’d be amazed at how much paperwork medical billing companies actually deal with. They need to put the correct codes for the diagnosis on the insurance paperwork, send out the insurance, send out letters to customers if and when their insurance is declined, and handle many more things as well. If you do not use the right medical billing companies, you can have a nightmare of paperwork and unpaid invoices on your hands.

Within a few months, it seemed like time to look for new medical billing companies. As soon as I was looking the other way, the medical billing companies people started slacking off in their work. Patients would call me, claiming they were billed for the wrong diagnosis or that they were overcharged. When patients were undercharged, on the other hand, they would rarely call me. I would just not be paid for that appointment. Getting through to the medical billing business help desk was a nightmare, senior care services. They claimed that something had gone wrong with their medical billing software, but this seemed like a poor excuse. You would think that a company that prided itself on giving personalized service to local clientèle would be run more efficiently! In the end, I did have to send out my paperwork to one of those medical billing companies across the country. Although it is more difficult to deal with them when something goes wrong, very little goes wrong nowadays.
